Miss Lakewood -1941 Sedan Cruiser by Edwin Monk Sr.
Builder: White Location: We think she was built at Lakewood Boat Works on Lake Washington
1940-1963 – Unknown
She was a member of the CYA while owned by A. Todd. He owned her from 1963 to the late 1980’s
After 1980 is a bit of a Mystery at this point. She was laid up at some point in Pike’s Cove boatyard, Foss Waterway, Tacoma Washington. It appears she was in ill repair and reportedly had sunk. The ‘Old-timers’ in the yard said “she will never float again.
In 2000 Richard Spence was documented as the owner.
The engine was replaced with a VOLVO in Tacoma.
About 2002: She was purchased from Pike’s Cove by Chris Turner and Nicole Cocherl and taken to Deer Harbor on Orcas Island where she was “blue tarped” and reported to be the marina derelict by the former Marina Manager.
She ultimately had many hull repairs along the way after this time, and restoration was begun. Mike Durland at Deer Harbor Boat Works did the work on her there.
2007:She was later purchased by a Dave Zusaq who worked at Goldstar Marine in Port Townsend, WA.
2009: Then purchased by Eli Kunzman. Eli did hull work, refastening and completed much work cosmetically. She is better today for all the folks who have contributed to her wellbeing.
2010: Today she is owned by Lynne Reister, Marine Surveyor of Seattle. She treasures her and appreciates all those who have contributed to Miss Lakewood over the years.
At the Wooden Boat Festival in 2012, Miss Lakewood was visited by the granddaughters, Sarah and Jen, and the daughter of A. Todd and her husband. They came to share their memories of the 20 some years their father and grandfather had her and brought all three of the ship's logs. What a Wonderful Day!
Miss Lakewood is pleased to be back in folds and company of the CYA Fleet!
