Press Release: New Canadian Fleet of the Classic Yacht Association

Mike & Peggy O'Brien's "Euphemia"
Press Release July 3, 2008

The Classic Yacht Association has as its primary purpose the promotion of the preservation, restoration and maintenance of fine, old, power-driven pleasure craft.  There are over 350 members making up five fleets including Southern California, Northern California, the Pacific North West, Alaska and the USA fleet.

At its annual meeting in January 2008 in Long Beach California, the CYA approved a resolution changing the constitution and by laws to reflect an international character.

In keeping with that goal, International Commodore David Gillespie is proud to announce the granting of a new charter to the CANADIAN FLEET.  There are currently 20 members of the fleet with vessels ranging in age from the 1913 classic Charles H. Cates to the vintage 1952 Chris Craft, Gin Fizz.

The formation of the new fleet was led by International Rear Commodore Mike O'Brien from Victoria, and Pacific North West fleet Staff Commodore, Canada, Bob Shaw from Vancouver.  A first annual meeting at which a Bridge will be elected is planned for the fall of 2008.

Membership in the Canadian fleet is open to all residents of Canada who are owners of Classic or Vintage yachts as defined in the CYA by-laws which are available on the web site at www.classicyacht.org.
