Upcoming PNW Fleet Events

PNW Predicted Log Race

Fleet: Pacific Northwest

The 2012 Herb Cleaver Memorial Predicted Log Race will be held on Lake Washington on May 19, 2012.

The course is being laid and documents are being prepared for the benefit of improving our skills of navigation. CYA skippers and navigators know they have important vessels of history to protect and care for, and realize that discovering the accuracy of instruments, boat performance, and course plotting come together in running a predicted log race. Fashioned on the predictable waters of Lake Washington, the conditions are ideal for all skippers, whether experienced or novice, to improve skills and discover what's new with their vessel's performance. The fleet's team of experienced mentors are on hand to help all of us. You will not be disappointed. Prizes to the winners are secondary to the knowledge gained. The opportunity is here. Join us for a great event.

Call John Murphey at 206-255-3190 now, or email him at john@jnlenterprises.com. More details will be coming soon.

PNW Past Commodore's Cruise

Fleet: Pacific Northwest

The Great American Past Commodore's Cruise,
All-star Clam Bake and Great Gatsby Party of the Year!

This cruise was started many years ago by a few past PNW Commodores who wanted a get-away weekend that did not involve a public show or a long trip from Seattle.  As the name implies, the Past Commodore's Cruise is hosted by a Past Commodore, preferably the Staff Commodore (the immediate past commodore) --  and Past Commodores really know how to put on an event!  Don't Miss It!!!

This year's event is being coordinated by Staff Commodore Diane VanDerbeek, and will once again feature fun, clams, and debauchery at Dan Allen's fabulous estate on Manzanita Bay.  And once again we will cruise across the bay, Gatsby style, to the Henderson Mansion for the Saturday evening gala extravaganza.

Highlights:

  • Saturday through Monday, May 26-28, 2012.
  • Dock space for most boats. (Limited 15-amp power available.)
  • Clam bake and bonfire Saturday night! Thanks to Dan Allen for use of his property and all the clams we can dig!
  • Sunday trip to Tom & Patty Henderson's home near Poulsbo for a Great Gatsby Party!

Don't miss this great Memorial Day Weekend bash!

Please RSVP to: Staff Commodore Diane VanDerbeek, diane.vanderbeek@yachtolympus.com

The Pacific Northwest Fleet of the Classic Yacht Association in conjunction with the Port of Seattle will once again sponsor the Bell Street Pier Classic Rendezvous as part of the Seattle Waterfront Classic Weekend, June 16 and 17 at Pier 66 on Seattle's downtown waterfront.  Over forty classic wooden vessels, many of them built prior to World War II, will welcome visitors throughout this Father's Day weekend.  This event represents the largest gathering of classic yachts on the West Coast.  The yachts will be joined by dozens of classic automobiles that will be on display on the pier. Admission to all show sites is complimentary.

The Bell Street Pier Classic Rendezvous will again highlight a Marquee Class of yachts - featuring Matthews Boats this year.  (See More About Matthews Boats below. . .)

On Friday June 15th, 2012 the classic yachts will participate in a Sail-In Parade along the waterfront prior to their arrival at Bell Harbor at 6 pm.  An excellent view of the yacht parade will be available from Myrtle Edwards Park or from any of the downtown piers between 5 and 6 pm.

The public is invited to the Bell Harbor Marina docks to view the classics on Saturday the 16th from 10 am to 5 pm, and on Sunday the 17th (Father's Day) from 10 am to 4 pm.  Many of the boats will be available for boarding, and guests are asked to wear soft-soled shoes.  Visitors will be asked to vote for their favorite yacht.  The winning boat's name will be inscribed on a permanent plaque on display at Bell Harbor.

The Classic Yacht Association was formed in 1970, dedicated to the promotion, preservation, restoration and maintenance of fine old power driven pleasure craft.  Almost 300 vessels are currently registered nationwide, with many located in the greater Puget Sound area.
